How to enter the Putnam competition

The Putnam competition usually takes place on the first Saturday of December. The contest is held simultaneously on campuses of participating institutions, including UIUC. It is open to all regularly enrolled undergraduate students in the U.S. and Canada who have not yet received a college degree. However, a student can participate in no more than four Putnam competitions.

Each institution is required to submit a list of participating students by mid October. Those who are on this list are guaranteed entry in the Putnam; others can still participate provided there are sufficiently many "no-shows" at the contests. Local (UIUC) students can sign up for the Putnam Contest at the beginning of the Fall semester by coming to one of the training sessions, or by contacting Professor Hildebrand (ajh@uiuc.edu, 244-7721, office 241 Illini Hall).
