Graduation with Distinction
The requirements for graduation with Distinction are given below for students majoring in mathematics.

Graduation with:
Distinction requires a grade point average of 3.25 both in all courses taken at Illinois and in all courses taken at Illinois counting toward the mathematics major.
High Distinction requires either
(i) a grade point average of 3.50 both in all courses taken at Illinois and in all courses taken at Illinois counting toward the mathematics major, and in addition a grade of at least B+ in at least two courses chosen from the list below
or
(ii) a grade point average of 3.75 both in all courses taken at Illinois and in all courses taken at Illinois counting toward the mathematics major.
Highest Distinction requires
(i) a grade point average of 3.75 both in all courses taken at Illinois and in all courses taken at Illinois counting toward the mathematics major;
(ii) a grade of at least B+ in at least two courses chosen from the list below; and
(iii) completion of an approved senior project, resulting in a paper such as would typically be produced in Math 496 or an REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates).

418, 423, 424, 425, 427, 428, 432, 447, 448, 496, any 500 level math course
Modifications of the above criteria on an individual basis are at the discretion of the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
