Conferences
The number theory group typically hosts at least one conference each year. For most years in the past two decades, the Illinois Number Theory Conference has been held over a two day period at the University of Illinois.
On several occasions, these meetings have been expanded into international conferences of several days duration.
- In 1987, a five day meeting commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ramanujan was held at the University of Illinois.
- In 1989, we celebrated Paul Bateman's 70th birthday and retirement with a three day meeting at the nearby Conference Center at Allerton Park.
- In 1995, we returned to Allerton Park to celebrate the 70th birthday and impending retirement of Heini Halberstam.
- In May, 2000, 276 number theorists attended the Millennial Conference on Number Theory, organized by the number theorists at Illinois.
- Two conferences have been organized by graduate students: Midwest Number Theory Conference for Graduate Students and Recent PhD's II, February 5-6, 2005 and the Midwest Number Theory Conference for Graduate Students IV, October 28-29, 2006
- Illinois Number Theory Fest, 2007 marked the 80th birthdays of Heini Halberstam and John Selfridge.
- 2009 Illinois Number Theory Celebration marked the 90th birthday of Paul Bateman and the 70th birthday of Bruce Berndt.
